Why only one middleware without huge upgrade?

I was very surprised to learn that only one middleware is available on the launch plan, and accessing more than one requires a scale plan and a $99 upgrade (which is >$200 more a month!!).

I worry that we are going to start getting nickel and dimed by Xano as they add features. Pricing already increased considerably last year. Middleware functionality is a commodity feature across most backends. Why do we have to pay extra?

Especially given the feature is related to security, I’m shocked it is mostly paywalled. The biggest problem with Xano is the lack of row-level-security that Supabase offers or ‘privacy rules’ that Bubble offers. Middleware allows you to apply rate limiting across all endpoints, or additional validations to ensure users can only see their own or their team’s data when returning data to the frontend (to catch potential human error like not applying a filter on a search). Unlimited middleware should be part of any paid plan, no questions asked. It costs Xano essentially nothing to offer it, and the expectation for paying monthly is that the product will be hosted, maintained, and improved.

Is anyone else irked by this and slightly concerned?

Jack
